JLPT考试当天清单:前一晚要准备什么,考场上该怎么做

N5N4N3N2N1

By the time exam day arrives, your preparation is mostly done. What remains is logistics and composure, and both are surprisingly easy to get wrong. This checklist focuses on the things you can control.

One important note first: rules about what you can bring, what time you must arrive, and how the day is organized are set by the official organizers and can change. Always confirm the details on the official site, jlpt.jp, and on your own admission documents. Nothing here replaces those.

The night before

Documents and items

  • Your admission ticket (受験票). Put it somewhere you cannot lose it: in the same bag as your ID.
  • Photo ID, if required for your test site. Check your notice.
  • Pencils and an eraser. The answer sheet is typically marked in pencil, so bring several, sharpened, and a good eraser. Verify the required pencil type in your notice.
  • A watch (if permitted). Many rooms have a clock, but you should not rely on being able to see it. Check whether your venue allows watches and what kind.
  • Snack and water. Check the rules for what is allowed and when.

Logistics

  • Plan your route twice. Know the station, the walking route, and the backup option.
  • Leave early. A delayed train is not a valid excuse. Aim to arrive with comfortable margin.
  • Set two alarms. Phone and a backup.

Mind and body

  • Stop studying new material. The night before is for light review of things you already know.
  • Sleep. A well-rested brain recalls more than a tired brain that crammed an extra hour.

The morning of the exam

  • Eat something familiar. Exam day is not the time to try a new breakfast.
  • Re-check your bag against the list above.
  • Do a few minutes of warm-up reading in Japanese. A short text gets your brain into Japanese mode so the first reading question does not feel like a cold start.
  • Arrive and find your seat location early. Knowing exactly where you are going removes one stressor.

In the room: general strategy

Read the instructions

The exam is not the place to guess what a section expects. Listen carefully to the proctor and read what is printed. Do not start until you are told to.

Mark your answers carefully

A common source of lost points is a misaligned answer sheet. When you move to a new page or section, check that the question number matches the row you are filling in. If you skip a question, skip the row too.

Manage your time by section

Because each section has its own time allowance, you cannot trade time between them. Use the time you have, and train for it with timed practice. If you want a method, see how to review a JLPT mock exam for turning timed attempts into targeted improvement.

Vocabulary and grammar

Work quickly through the questions you know. If one stumps you, mark a guess and move on. A single hard question should not cost you five easy ones later.

Reading

Skim the questions first, then read the passage looking for the answers. Do not try to understand every word. For N5-specific tactics, the JLPT N5 reading strategy applies in principle to higher levels too.

Listening

Use the time before each audio to read the answer choices if the format allows it. You will usually hear each item once, so focus on the question being asked. See the N5 listening strategy for the habits that carry over.

If something goes wrong

  • You blank on a question. Take one breath, mark your best guess, and move on.
  • You realize you misread something earlier. Do not spend minutes agonizing. If you have time at the end, return to it.
  • You feel panicky. Put your pencil down for five seconds, breathe out slowly, and refocus on the next question only.

Remember that the JLPT scoring system rewards consistent performance across sections, which is why a disaster in one area can matter more than a few missed questions overall. If you want to understand that, read JLPT scoring explained.

After the exam

Do not replay every question. Eat, rest, and let it go. Results come later according to the official schedule, which you can check at jlpt.jp.

Prepare the way you will perform

The best exam-day habit is practicing under exam-like conditions beforehand. JLPT Ready's Dojo Real Exam mode is timed, blind, and scored like the official structure for the level, so test day feels familiar. For a complete plan, see the JLPT preparation guide, and when you are ready to try it, you can start free with N5, no card required.
